Each year land is designated and farmed for the sole purpose of supplying enough inventory to meet the needs of the food bank. Over the past years, we have received both cash and in-kind donations from various companies and individuals to help produce this crop. STHF is currently working with American Rice Inc. in Freeport, Texas and Colorado County Rice Mill in Eagle Lake, Texas to process and bag all of the rice donations.

The rice is then distributed on an as needed basis. Houston Food Bank picks up a truck (42,800 lbs.) every three weeks, which in turn feeds 428,000 meals.

In October 2002, the Houston Food Bank presented STHF with the 2002 Humanitarian Award.

STHF is looking for ways to expand their distribution into other areas of Texas. In order to continue to accomplish our current goals and to expand into other areas we are asking for your help and consideration. With this link, you will find a commitment form (You will need Adobe Reader to view this form.) in which you can donate at various levels. Please consider the difference your donation can make.

Please help us spread the word about the objective of this organization. If you know of any other individual or company that you think might be interested in helping, please let us know. Also, if your church or local food pantry is in need of rice, please have them contact us so we can set them up as a distribution point.
